WPL 2026 Launches to Enthusiastic Response

Today marks the start of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 season on Friday, 9 January 2026. This edition, organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), runs through 5 February 2026, featuring five dynamic teams competing in a double round-robin setup followed by playoffs, including an Eliminator and the championship match. Fans can expect thrilling cricket action paired with entertainment elements both on and off the field.

Competing Teams in WPL 2026

This year, five franchise teams will vie for the prestigious title:

Mumbai Indians (MI)

As reigning champions with multiple WPL titles under their belt, MI is geared up to defend their crown with a formidable lineup.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

Past champions RCB will kick off the tournament against MI in an exciting opener.

Delhi Capitals (DC)

Having been competitive in earlier seasons, DC aims to claim their first WPL trophy this time around.

Gujarat Giants (GG)

GG combines a mix of international and homegrown talent in their quest to challenge stronger teams.

UP Warriorz (UPW)

Format and Structure of the Tournament

The WPL 2026 is formatted as a double round-robin, with each team facing all other teams twice. Points are awarded for wins, with net run rate determining rankings among tied teams. The season culminates in a final match on 5 February 2026, held in Vadodara, while the second and third-placed teams meet in the Eliminator.
