Chinese electric car maker Xpeng said it will team up with Alibaba’s digital mapping platform, Amap to introduce a fleet of autonomous robotaxis.
Xpeng plans to deploy three of its self-developed robotaxi models, with trial runs scheduled to start in 2026. The vehicles will be integrated with Amap’s mapping and navigation tools to support coordinated ride-hailing operations.
Amap, which already works with autonomous firms like WeRide and Pony.ai, will act as the mapping and routing backbone for Xpeng’s robotaxi service. The data and traffic intelligence from Amap are expected to improve fleet routing and operational safety.
Beyond domestic tests, Xpeng said it aims to develop a global robotaxi network together with Amap, though the companies have not provided a detailed rollout timetable or target cities.
The announcement underscores growth in China’s autonomous vehicle industry, where manufacturers are accelerating efforts to commercialise driverless transport by combining vehicle hardware with advanced mapping and software platforms.
