Egypt Announces 10th Zayed Charity Run in Sheikh Zayed City

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Egypt’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced the 10th Zayed Charity Run, scheduled for 26th December in Sheikh Zayed City, Giza. The event is organised in partnership with the Higher Organising Committee of the Zayed Charity Run, with this year’s proceeds going to the Egyptian Food Bank.

During a press conference, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, said the race is a symbol of humanitarian cooperation between Egypt and the UAE. He noted that the event highlights strong bilateral ties and demonstrates how sport can create positive social impact. The ministry is preparing the venue for a large public turnout, ensuring the event honours the humanitarian legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Mohsen Sarhan Ali, CEO of the Egyptian Food Bank, said the organisation’s involvement reflects its commitment to helping communities. Beyond food assistance, the Food Bank also supports initiatives that benefit vulnerable families and encourage volunteerism.

The race will feature a 10km competition, a 5km race for amateurs and People of Determination, and a 5km wheelchair race for professional participants. The route will go from the Zayed 2000 entrance to ZED Park.

The Zayed Charity Run has grown steadily over the years. Past editions saw strong participation: 10,000 runners in Cairo in 2015 and 2016, 10,000 in Luxor in 2017, 15,000 in Ismailia in 2018, 15,000 in Suez in 2019, 20,000 in Alexandria in 2022, 25,000 in the New Administrative Capital in 2023, and 50,000 participants in 2024. This shows the growing public interest in combining charity with sport for a positive social cause.
