Abu Dhabi Baja Challenge 2025 Begins in Al Ain Desert

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Abu Dhabi Baja Challenge is back for its third season, launching on Saturday in the breathtaking Tilal Swaihan area of Al Ain. Organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) in collaboration with the Emirates Motorsports Organisation (EMSO), the event promises an action-packed weekend filled with excitement and competition among global off-road racing enthusiasts.

This year’s opening round will welcome around 100 competitors from 31 different countries, including more than 25 Emirati drivers and riders. The mix of professional racers and amateurs ensures a vibrant and competitive atmosphere. Racers from across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, and beyond are gearing up to tackle the challenges of the desert terrain.

The Tilal Swaihan desert, one of the UAE’s most popular off-road racing destinations, will host the participants as they navigate through over 100 kilometres of soft sand and dunes. The route is designed to test speed, precision, and endurance, as drivers and riders battle for early season points and glory in the championship standings.

The event will feature a variety of vehicles, including 62 motorcycles, 8 quad bikes (ATVs), 8 cars, and 22 buggies. The competitors will complete five laps through a challenging circuit designed to highlight both driver skill and mechanical performance under desert conditions.

Competitors represent a diverse list of nations such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Portugal, South Africa, Australia, the United States, India, Russia, China, Japan, Lebanon, Jordan, Canada, Uzbekistan, Switzerland, Poland, and Brazil. This international mix further enhances the prestige and competitive spirit of the Abu Dhabi Baja Challenge.

Talal Mustafa Al Hashemi, Executive Director of Events at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, emphasized the event’s dedication to maintaining high safety standards. “Once again, the Abu Dhabi Baja Challenge unites professionals and amateurs in a thrilling yet safe competitive environment,” he said. He added that the ADSC continues to uphold the highest organizational standards while promoting sportsmanship and fair play.

The championship will consist of four main rounds, with participants earning points based on their performance in each race. Final champions will be crowned at the end of the fourth round, reflecting consistency and excellence across the series. This format ensures continuous engagement and anticipation for both participants and fans throughout the season.

Al Hashemi also highlighted the ADSC’s mission to nurture Emirati driving talent. “Through organizing such events, we reaffirm our commitment to developing local drivers and encouraging their participation in international competitions,” he said. He also acknowledged the strong partnership with EMSO, which plays a key role in promoting motorsport growth in the UAE and beyond.

The organizing committee confirmed that the administrative and technical inspections will be conducted on Friday evening from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. On race day, registration will open from 6:00 am to 7:30 am, followed by the driver briefing. The official race start is scheduled for 8:30 am, with the podium ceremony and awards taking place at 11:45 am at the designated finish line area.

The Abu Dhabi Baja Challenge not only brings thrilling competition to the UAE but also highlights the country’s role as a key hub for global motorsport events. As the engines roar and the desert dust rises, Al Ain’s golden sands will once again witness a display of endurance, precision, and adventure that defines off-road racing at its finest.
