The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) and Space42, a UAE-based AI-powered SpaceTech company, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on geospatial and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions. The partnership aims to support sustainable energy and water management across Abu Dhabi.
Witnessed by Top Officials
The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Abdulla Humaid Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy. Eng. Shaima Abdulla Al Mulla, Executive Director of Licensing, Compliance and Consumer Protection at the DoE, and Hasan Al Hosani, CEO of Smart Solutions at Space42, officially signed the agreement.
Framework for Cooperation
The MoU establishes a framework for collaboration and expertise sharing between the DoE and Space42. The focus is on exploring, developing, and implementing advanced geospatial and AI-driven technologies to strengthen the resilience of Abu Dhabi’s energy and water infrastructure.
Enhancing Infrastructure Monitoring
Space42 will provide satellite imagery services, including high-resolution optical, radar (SAR), and thermal data, to improve planning and monitoring of energy and water assets. The AI-driven solutions will enable predictive analysis and data-driven decision-making for better operational efficiency.
Integrated Smart Systems
The collaboration will cover integrated monitoring of electricity, water, district cooling, and associated infrastructure using advanced satellite-based insights. AI simulations will support rainwater catchment and flood resilience, while IoT and AI will process real-time data from remote sites to enhance resource management.
Supporting Water Management
Through the partnership, the DoE will gain timely insights into soil moisture levels across the emirate. This will help optimize water usage, improve sustainability, and enable informed decision-making for infrastructure and resource planning.
Pilot Projects and Innovation
The MoU also promotes joint initiatives, pilot projects, and studies to advance sustainable energy and water management. Both parties will explore innovative practices and leverage native AI technologies for infrastructure monitoring and efficiency.
Official Statements on the Partnership
Al Mulla emphasized that the partnership reflects the DoE’s commitment to integrating AI, satellite imagery, and geospatial data to enhance resource efficiency and infrastructure development. Al Hosani highlighted that the collaboration unlocks the potential of space-based data to improve situational awareness and operational efficiency across Abu Dhabi’s energy and water systems.
This strategic partnership strengthens Abu Dhabi’s sustainable development goals by combining AI technology with satellite data and geospatial solutions. It positions the emirate as a leader in smart, data-driven energy and water management, supporting innovation, resilience, and environmental sustainability.
