ADQ And NBA Launch New Basketball Courts In Abu Dhabi

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

ADQ, one of the region’s leading investment companies, has joined hands with the National Basketball Association (NBA) to open two newly refurbished public basketball courts in the heart of Abu Dhabi. This project reflects ADQ’s continuous efforts to encourage active lifestyles and community engagement through high-quality sports infrastructure. The new facilities are part of a broader initiative to make fitness more accessible and enjoyable for all residents.

Modern Courts In Capital Garden

The newly upgraded basketball courts are located at Capital Garden, one of Abu Dhabi’s most popular public spaces. These courts follow the success of the earlier refurbished site at Zayed Sports City, which received positive community feedback. The new locations are designed to be inclusive, modern, and open to everyone — from young players discovering the sport to seasoned athletes looking to improve their game.

Encouraging Active Lifestyles And Social Interaction

ADQ stated that the goal behind this initiative is not only to promote physical activity but also to strengthen social bonds within the community. The organization believes that sports can bring people together, help them stay healthy, and create a sense of belonging. By introducing more public basketball courts, ADQ hopes to provide residents of all ages with safe and inspiring spaces to connect and stay active.

Future Expansion Across The UAE

The company also confirmed that additional basketball courts are planned in both Abu Dhabi and the Al Ain Region. These future projects aim to make the sport more accessible to communities across the emirate. This expansion will help develop local basketball culture and inspire young people to stay active and engaged in sports.

Grand Inauguration Ceremony

The unveiling ceremony was attended by Anas Jawdat Albarguthi, Group Chief Operating Officer of ADQ, and David Watts, NBA Head of the Middle East. The event began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, officially opening the new courts. Following the inauguration, the atmosphere came alive with NBA Fit Clinics, where young players from the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Abu Dhabi League participated in training sessions focused on fitness, teamwork, and skill development.

Inspiring The Next Generation Of Athletes

These youth-focused sessions provided an exciting platform for children to interact with professional coaches, learn about discipline, and experience the joy of basketball firsthand. The energy and enthusiasm among the young participants demonstrated how initiatives like this can inspire the next generation to pursue active lifestyles and embrace the values of teamwork and sportsmanship.

Connection With The NBA Abu Dhabi Games 2025

The launch of the new courts coincided with The NBA Abu Dhabi Games 2025, presented by ADQ. This year’s games featured world-famous teams — the New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers — showcasing their exceptional skills on the court. The timing of the court openings highlighted ADQ’s and the NBA’s shared goal of celebrating sports, empowering youth, and creating meaningful community experiences through world-class events.

Promoting Abu Dhabi As A Global Sports Hub

Through such initiatives, Abu Dhabi continues to strengthen its position as a vibrant global sports destination. With increasing investments in sports infrastructure, the emirate has become a regional leader in hosting international sporting events and promoting active lifestyles. The partnership between ADQ and the NBA is another example of Abu Dhabi’s long-term commitment to making sports accessible and inclusive for everyone.

Supporting Community Well-Being And Development

ADQ’s collaboration with the NBA is part of its broader mission to support community well-being and sustainable development. By investing in sports facilities, ADQ aims to enhance public health and build stronger community connections. These efforts also align with the emirate’s vision to improve quality of life and encourage people to participate in healthy and active living.

The opening of the refurbished courts marks an important step toward building a healthier, more connected society. Through initiatives like this, ADQ demonstrates how partnerships between major organizations and sports institutions can have a lasting impact on the community. As more courts and programs are planned, Abu Dhabi is set to continue its journey toward becoming a leading model for fitness, youth empowerment, and social well-being.
