Sheikh Hamdan Opens 2025 Al Dhafra Dates Festival & Auction

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The fourth edition of the Al Dhafra Dates Festival and Auction was launched in Al Dhafra, Abu Dhabi, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region. The event is organised by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority and will run until 26 October 2025.

The festival aims to become a leading international heritage event by promoting date production, showcasing premium varieties, supporting national food security, and encouraging farmers to improve quality standards. It also provides a platform for sharing knowledge in palm cultivation.

This year’s festival will feature 21 competitions with 173 prizes valued at over AED 5.5 million. Contests will include date beauty competitions, honey contests, cooking, date packaging, painting, and photography.

A highlight of the festival is the daily Date Auction, where visitors can bid on premium Emirati dates of different types and grades, displayed on dedicated tables.

In addition to competitions and auctions, the festival will offer a wide range of cultural and educational activities, including traditional folk performances, photography and painting exhibitions, heritage crafts, awareness lectures, and creative workshops suitable for all ages. Visitors can also explore retail outlets selling dates, date products, and farming equipment, as well as a dedicated Honey Village.

Both government and private sector entities will participate with pavilions featuring interactive programmes, awareness platforms for farmers and visitors, and displays of their latest services and agricultural innovations.

This year, the Kingdom of Morocco is the guest of honour, highlighting cultural and agricultural exchange. The participation of Morocco aims to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in palm cultivation, date production, and other key sectors.

The Al Dhafra Dates Festival continues to celebrate the UAE’s rich heritage while supporting agriculture, food security, and innovation. It brings together local and international communities, farmers, and visitors, offering an engaging and educational experience for all.

The festival not only promotes premium dates and traditional heritage, but also strengthens global partnerships and highlights the UAE’s role in advancing agricultural excellence and cultural exchange.
