Starbucks Welcomes Anand Varadarajan as New CTO

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

Starbucks is set to make significant changes to its technology leadership with the appointment of Anand Varadarajan as the new Chief Technology Officer. This Indian-origin tech leader will officially assume his position on January 19.

Reporting directly to the CEO, Varadarajan joins the upper management team following the retirement of the previous technology head in September.

With nearly two decades of experience at Amazon, Anand Varadarajan has been pivotal in developing robust technology systems that cater to millions of users. In his latest role, he oversaw technology and supply chain systems for Amazon's grocery division globally.

Prior to his tenure at Amazon, he sharpened his skills as a software engineer at Oracle and gained early experience in startups, where he contributed to building technology from scratch.

Starbucks states that Varadarajan possesses extensive expertise in constructing secure and efficient digital infrastructures. His background is expected to enhance daily operations and expedite customer service mechanisms worldwide.

Anand Varadarajan earned an engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), followed by a master's in civil engineering from Purdue University and another in computer science from the University of Washington.

Starbucks anticipates that Varadarajan's leadership will accelerate its digital initiatives and strengthen its global technology framework. The company is increasingly focusing on enhancing digital capabilities, online platforms, and customer experience, and his appointment is viewed as a critical advancement in this strategy.

With Anand Varadarajan as Chief Technology Officer, Starbucks aims to bolster its technological infrastructure while prioritizing customer-centric innovations.
