Apple has signed a major five-year deal to broadcast and stream Formula 1 in the United States. This makes Apple TV a new home for fans of the fast-growing sport and comes after the success of Apple’s F1 movie starring Brad Pitt. The deal shows Apple’s plans to compete with other streaming giants like Netflix and Disney+.
The financial details were not officially announced, but reports suggest the deal is worth around $140 million per year. This is more than the $90 million ESPN previously paid to show Formula 1. The agreement means that Apple TV will show every practice, qualifying, sprint session, and Grand Prix race during the season. Some races and practice sessions will even be free to watch on the Apple TV app, reaching more viewers.
Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of services, said he is excited about the Formula 1 partnership. He added that Apple TV subscribers will now have front-row access to one of the fastest-growing sports in the world. Formula 1 has gained almost 90 million fans worldwide in the past year, with China being a major contributor. The growing popularity of the sport gives Apple a chance to attract new viewers and keep existing subscribers engaged.
Apple’s Formula 1 strategy builds on the success of its movie, “F1: The Movie,” which has earned over $628 million globally. The movie will be available on Apple TV on December 12. Combining live sports and entertainment allows Apple to appeal to both movie fans and racing enthusiasts. Apple TV users can expect high-quality coverage, expert analysis, and a complete Formula 1 experience throughout the season.
Live sports are becoming very important in the streaming industry, and Apple’s Formula 1 deal shows its commitment to offering premium content. Fans in the United States can now watch every race, practice, and qualifying session on Apple TV anytime.
This deal also adds to Apple’s growing sports lineup, which includes Major League Soccer and Friday Night Baseball. By acquiring Formula 1 rights, Apple provides thrilling racing action for US fans and strengthens Apple TV’s role as a key platform for live sports and entertainment.
