Ariana Grande in Shock Following Red Carpet Intrusion at 'Wicked' Premiere

Post by : Meena Hassan

The eagerly awaited Singapore premiere of Wicked: For Good on November 13 took a startling turn when a man, later identified as Australian influencer Johnson Wen, breached security and approached Ariana Grande on the yellow-brick-road carpet. This alarming episode overshadowed the evening's festivities and raised safety concerns among attendees.

A Premiere Turned Chaotic

Set against the iconic backdrop of Universal Studios Singapore, the premiere aimed to celebrate the international launch of the film adaptation of Wicked. Grande, starring as Glinda, graced the carpet alongside her co-stars Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum, engaging with fans until the moment was disrupted.

Numerous videos shared online show the individual sprinting towards Grande from behind, grasping her suddenly. Clad in white clothing and known to followers as “Pyjama Man” for his unusual appearances, Wen is infamous for similar disruptions.

Grande appeared startled, attempting to distance herself while Wen encircled her with an arm. Cynthia Erivo quickly intervened, placing herself between Grande and Wen, demanding he cease. Security promptly removed him from the scene while Yeoh and others rushed to support Grande.

Grande, visibly distressed, remained close to her co-stars to regain her composure.

Who Is “Pyjama Man”? A Troubling Trend

Fans quickly recognized the person as Johnson Wen, a 25-year-old Aussie social media figure notorious for reckless antics in public. His nickname, “Pyjama Man,” arises from his tendency to appear in sleepwear at various events, though his actions now venture into disturbing territory.

Wen’s history includes crashing a Katy Perry concert in June and trying to disrupt The Weeknd’s performance in August, raising concerns regarding his ability to infiltrate secured environments.

In a troubling twist, Wen shared a video of the incident soon after, captioning it, “Dear Ariana Grande, Thank You for letting me Jump on the Yellow Carpet with You.” This remark faced immediate criticism from fans worldwide.

Concerns Over Fan Behavior and Safety

Wen’s post drew a flood of negative comments, as users emphasized the danger he posed and the discomfort caused to Grande. One user stated, “You’re the reason why we see fewer appearances in Asia.” Another user queried, “Are you happy now? Do you find joy in disturbing celebrities?”

The general consensus highlighted serious concerns over how Wen continues to evade repercussions for such actions. Comments reflected an unsettling thought: “Because of your nuisance, she might not return to Singapore again.”

The takeaway from the fan reactions was clear: the stunt was unacceptable, unsafe, and indicative of broader issues regarding celebrity security at public events.

Significance of the Incident

As celebrity appearances garner heightened attention, breaches like this provoke critical discussions on red carpet safety measures and the role of event organizers in safeguarding participants. With the rise in aggressive behavior among fans, studios and promotional teams face mounting pressure to improve protocols for significant events.

For Wicked: For Good, heavily reliant on a global marketing strategy, this incident could tarnish the film’s celebratory launch and discourage future appearances in certain markets.
