California Cab Driver Assault Case Involving Indian-Origin Suspect

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

A disturbing incident involving an Indian-origin cab driver has emerged from California, USA, where a young woman was reportedly sexually assaulted after losing consciousness during a late-night cab ride. The driver has been taken into custody by authorities.

Incident Overview

The assault allegedly occurred on November 27, 2025, shortly after 1:00 am, when the woman hailed a cab to head home following a night out.

Location Details

The event transpired in Camarillo, California. The journey began in Thousand Oaks, where the woman had been at a bar.

Circumstances of the Incident

The 21-year-old, having consumed alcohol, was not fully alert and sought a cab for safety. The driver, identified as 35-year-old Simranjit Singh Sekhon, picked her up around 1:00 am. During the ride, she fell asleep and became unconscious.

Despite the journey being marked as complete, the driver continued to circle different areas of Camarillo, during which time he allegedly assaulted her in the vehicle.

After regaining awareness of the situation, the woman reported the assault to local authorities.

Response and Arrest

In response to the complaint, police promptly initiated an investigation in November 2025. A specialist crime unit gathered evidence and interrogated the suspect.

Sekhon was arrested on December 15, 2025, charged with the rape of a vulnerable victim. Law enforcement indicated that the woman was in no position to defend herself during the incident.

Court Proceedings

The suspect has entered a not guilty plea in court. His bail has been set at $500,000, with the next hearing scheduled for December 29, 2025.

Authorities also mentioned the potential for additional victims, and the investigation continues.

Additional Information

The identity of the cab company involved has not been disclosed by authorities, nor has information regarding the driver's visa or employment status been made public.

This case has ignited significant concerns regarding passenger safety, particularly for women traveling alone at night. Police urge individuals to remain vigilant, share travel details with loved ones, and seek assistance if they feel threatened.

The investigation into this Indian-origin cab driver case is ongoing, and more updates are expected soon.
