Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, the prestigious Challenge Sir Bani Yas triathlon will return to Sir Bani Yas Island from 31 January to 1 February 2026.
Organized by ADNEC Group, a Modon company, in conjunction with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Challenge Family, this year’s event promises a more immersive experience for athletes and spectators alike.
Following a successful debut in early 2025 which saw participation from over 3,000 athletes representing more than 40 countries, the organizers aspire to elevate the experience in 2026. Enhancements will include improved race logistics, tailored weekend packages, and a more favorable race schedule, ensuring the event remains a standout on the global triathlon calendar.
In a first for the event, ADNEC Group has introduced cruise ship accommodation. Participants and their families can stay aboard the Celestyal Discovery, which features modern amenities, international cuisine, entertainment, and direct access to the venue. This ship will also accommodate technical support teams, establishing one of the most comprehensive race setups in the region.
His Excellency Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, noted that the event signifies Abu Dhabi’s dedication to becoming a premier global sports hub. He emphasized that both professional and amateur athletes will have the opportunity to compete in the scenic surroundings of Sir Bani Yas Island, promoting healthy lifestyles and community involvement through sports.
Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Group CEO of ADNEC Group, expressed that the event aligns with their vision to expand Abu Dhabi’s international sports offerings. He remarked that Challenge Sir Bani Yas also showcases the tourism potential of the Al Dhafra region, fostering sustainable development in both sports and tourism.
Challenge Sir Bani Yas 2026 will feature various race formats, including the Long Distance Triathlon (3.8km swim, 180km cycle, 42.2km run), Middle Distance Triathlon (1.9km swim, 96km cycle, 21.1km run), and Olympic Distance Triathlon (1.5km swim, 45km cycle, 10km run).
Commemorating the UAE's Year of Family 2026, the event will also include inclusive community and family races, with swimming, cycling, and running events available for participants of all ages and skill levels. The event promises to maintain its vibrant festival atmosphere, featuring wildlife safaris, kayaking, snorkeling, cultural tours, and an engaging Fan Village, further enhancing the overall experience.
