Suspects in Bondi Beach Attack Resided in Philippine Hotel for Weeks

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

Recent revelations shed light on the suspects linked to the Bondi Beach attack and their extended stay in the Philippines prior to the tragic shooting in Australia. According to hotel staff, the father-son duo kept a low profile during their several-week stay.

Details of Their Stay

The accused, Sajid Akram and his son Naveed, are implicated in the shooting that killed 15 individuals at Bondi Beach. They checked in at a local hotel shortly after arriving in the Philippines.

They occupied room 315 at the GV Hotel, secured on the same day they arrived. The modest room featured two single beds, rented for around 930 pesos per night, roughly equivalent to 16 US dollars.

Timelines

The suspects arrived in the Philippines on November 1. Immigration details indicate that Davao was their final destination, where they remained for weeks before their departure.

The hotel personnel shared their experiences on December 18, 2025, after seeing the suspects' images in news broadcasts.

Living Arrangements

Staff members noted that the Bondi Beach attack suspects largely isolated themselves, exiting their room just once a day for less than an hour.

According to a hotel employee, interactions were minimal; only the son engaged in conversation occasionally, while the father avoided eye contact and remained reserved.

The reasons for their hotel stay were never disclosed, and hotel staff observed no social engagements, travel, or vehicle usage by the suspects, who merely explored the immediate vicinity.

Memorable Observations

One incident involved the men inquiring about purchasing durian, a well-known Southeast Asian fruit, but they were unable to find it.

Additionally, a staff member noted that during their stay, the son had long hair.

Hotel workers recognized the suspects immediately upon seeing news coverage of the Bondi Beach incident.

Departure Insights

Upon checking out, the men astonished staff with a tip. The son initially retrieved the security deposit, but the father insisted he give it to the hotel staff.

Employees described the suspects as polite and composed, which made the association with such a violent act difficult to comprehend.

Ongoing Investigations

Australian officials are now investigating potential communications between the Bondi Beach attack suspects and extremist groups during their time in the Philippines, particularly in Mindanao.

Philippine authorities have stated there is currently no evidence suggesting the country was used for terrorist training.

Further updates from police in Davao are anticipated.

Concluding Remarks

The calm demeanor of the Bondi Beach attack suspects during their hotel stay poses many questions. Their unremarkable behavior starkly contrasts with the tragic shooting they are accused of perpetrating.

Investigations are ongoing, with collaboration between authorities from both nations aimed at uncovering the complete narrative.
