Bologna Beat Inter Milan to Reach Italian Super Cup Final

Bologna Beat Inter Milan to Reach Italian Super Cup Final

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Bologna reached the Italian Super Cup final on Friday after a tense match against Inter Milan in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The match ended 1-1 in regular time, and Bologna won 3-2 in a penalty shoot-out. Ciro Immobile scored the winning penalty to secure Bologna’s place in the final against Serie A champions Napoli on Monday. Napoli had reached the final earlier by beating AC Milan 2-0.

Immobile has had a tough season, missing most games due to a thigh injury. He said, "I've had three and a half months of suffering but I have a big family who helped me." His winning penalty came in front of a small crowd in Saudi Arabia, and it was a special moment for him and the team.

In the match, Inter Milan started strong. Marcus Thuram scored early with a volley to give Inter the lead. But 10 minutes before half-time, Riccardo Orsolini scored a penalty for Bologna, leveling the scores. The match stayed tied until the penalty shoot-out. Bologna players kept calm and scored their penalties, while Inter players Alessandro Bastoni, Nicolo Barella, and Ange-Yoan Bonny missed theirs, giving Bologna the win.

The Italian Super Cup usually features the Serie A and Italian Cup winners. But since 2023, the tournament also includes the runners-up from the league and cup. The four-team event will continue to be held in Saudi Arabia until 2029.

Bologna now prepares to play Napoli in the final. Immobile said, "Napoli are in great shape, but it’s a one-off match and anything can happen." Fans are excited for the final, which promises an exciting contest between the two strong Italian teams.
