DP World has launched a new maritime service that connects Dubai’s Mina Rashid Port with Iraq’s Umm Qasr Port in just 36 hours. This new route offers a faster and more reliable option compared to long overland trucking routes. The service can carry up to 145 accompanied trailers per trip, with drivers travelling on the vessel, making cargo movement safer and more efficient.
The service was officially inaugurated at Mina Rashid with the arrival of the RoRo vessel DP World Express. The ship has recently undergone upgrades at Drydocks World and is scheduled to begin regular operations in December 2025. The launch ceremony was attended by senior officials from the UAE and Iraq, reflecting strong cooperation between the two countries.
This new maritime link allows full trailer units to move directly between the UAE and Iraq without unloading cargo at borders. This reduces delays, lowers handling risks, and simplifies cross-border trade procedures. Businesses will benefit from predictable transit times and improved supply chain planning.
DP World stated that the service meets growing demand for faster and more controlled cargo transport across the region. It also supports onward trade to nearby countries such as Jordan and Syria through established inland transport networks, improving regional connectivity.
On return journeys, the vessel will transport export goods from Iraq back to the UAE, supporting two-way trade and increasing efficiency for regional supply chains. This balanced trade flow helps businesses on both sides reduce costs and improve delivery timelines.
The new route also supports sustainability goals by reducing carbon emissions compared to traditional road transport. By expanding its integrated logistics network, DP World continues to strengthen the UAE’s role as a key regional trade hub.
