UAE Racing Authority Launches New Investigation Unit

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Emirates Racing Authority (ERA) has taken a significant step to ensure integrity and compliance in UAE horse racing by establishing a new Investigation Unit within its Integrity and Regulation Department. This initiative reflects ERA’s commitment to aligning with international best practices and maintaining trust across the racing industry.

Purpose of the New Unit

The Investigation Unit will focus on monitoring compliance with the ERA Rules of Racing, addressing integrity concerns, and reinforcing fairness in competitions. By adopting global standards followed by leading racing jurisdictions, ERA aims to enhance the credibility and professionalism of the sport in the UAE.

Key Appointments and Expertise

The unit will start with two full-time members: a lead Investigator and a multilingual graduate veterinarian. The combination of regulatory and veterinary expertise ensures the unit is equipped to handle both compliance and horse welfare matters effectively from the outset.

ERA Leadership Comments

Mohammad Al Shehhi, ERA General Manager and Board Member, emphasized the importance of integrity in racing. He stated, “The establishment of this new unit demonstrates the ERA’s proactive approach in adopting high standards. With the addition of veterinary expertise, we are confident the unit will reinforce trust and support the continued growth of racing in the UAE.”

Role of the Investigation Unit

The unit will oversee investigations related to rule breaches, integrity violations, and welfare concerns. Its work will ensure that participants compete in a fair and transparent environment, strengthening confidence among owners, trainers, jockeys, and racing fans.

Sam Shinsky, Head of Integrity and Regulation at ERA, said, “The creation of the Investigation Unit further strengthens our ability to safeguard racing integrity. Our appointments bring valuable investigative and regulatory expertise, ensuring consistent application of ERA rules and promoting a fair competition environment.”

ERA plans to further develop and expand its regulatory capabilities, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to professionalism and international best practices. This step underscores the UAE’s position as a leading center for integrity and excellence in horse racing.
