The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) will celebrate its 80th anniversary by joining the second Abu Dhabi Global Food Week. The event will take place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from 21st to 23rd October 2025.
FAO’s participation is led by its Subregional Office for the Gulf Cooperation Council States and Yemen, based in Abu Dhabi. The office acts as a regional hub to support agriculture and food transformation efforts in the UAE and nearby countries.
This year’s participation is special because it coincides with FAO’s 80 years of global work to improve food systems, fight hunger, and support sustainable farming. FAO, in close partnership with the UAE, will lead high-level discussions on climate-smart farming, protecting natural resources, and livestock health.
The organisation will also show how artificial intelligence and data analysis can help predict changes in food supply and demand. FAO will present key findings from its important report, The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World, to guide policies and strategies to face future food challenges caused by climate change and resource pressures.
Dr. Ahmad Mukhtar, FAO Representative ad interim to the UAE, said, “FAO’s 80th anniversary highlights our commitment to innovation, climate resilience, and data-driven solutions to improve food systems in the UAE and globally.”
He added, “Our participation is not just about the past—it helps shape the future of agriculture through talks on smart farming, resource management, and livestock health. We will also showcase AI and data use to forecast food challenges. Our partnership with the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority supports food security and makes Abu Dhabi a global center for agricultural innovation.”
Dr. Tariq Ahmed Al Ameri, Acting Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, congratulated FAO on 80 years of work. He praised FAO’s contributions to global food security, hunger reduction, and sustainable farming.
He said, “FAO’s participation strengthens our partnership and helps bring new ideas in climate-smart farming, resource management, and food supply chains. Abu Dhabi is proud to host experts from around the world and support international efforts for food security and sustainable agriculture.”
FAO’s presence at the Abu Dhabi Global Food Week shows its ongoing role in shaping better and sustainable food systems in the UAE and across the world.
