Heavy rainfall in Mexico over recent days has caused severe flooding, resulting in 41 deaths and widespread destruction. Torrential rains affected 31 of the country’s 32 states, impacting thousands of residents and submerging entire villages. Roads were washed away, and landslides occurred in several areas, making rescue operations challenging for emergency teams.
Hidalgo Among Hardest Hit
The central state of Hidalgo suffered the most, with at least 22 fatalities reported. Approximately 1,000 homes were damaged, and rescue teams continue to face difficulties reaching about 90 affected communities. The situation remains critical as authorities work to provide aid and restore access to isolated areas.
Impact in Puebla and Veracruz
In Puebla, around 800,000 people have been affected by the floods, and nine deaths were confirmed. The eastern state of Veracruz reported five fatalities, while one person lost their life in the central state of Queretaro. Authorities are focusing on relief and rescue efforts to assist displaced families and provide essential supplies.
Pacific Coast Threats
Officials are closely monitoring the Pacific coast, where weakened tropical storms Raymond and Priscilla continue to bring heavy rains. These storms, which have diminished from Category 2 hurricanes, are affecting western states including Chiapas, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Michoacán. The additional rainfall is compounding the flood damage and complicating recovery efforts.
Emergency Response Efforts
Mexico’s Civil Protection authorities are coordinating with local governments to deliver aid, conduct rescue operations, and assess the full extent of the damage. Emergency services face difficulties navigating flooded roads and reaching isolated communities, but teams remain committed to helping affected residents and preventing further casualties.
Community and Infrastructure Damage
Floodwaters have destroyed homes, washed away roads, and disrupted basic services, leaving many residents without shelter or access to essential needs. In some areas, landslides have blocked access routes, delaying rescue operations and the delivery of food, water, and medical supplies to those in need.
Authorities continue to warn residents in flood-prone areas to exercise caution as heavy rains persist in multiple regions. Monitoring of tropical storms Raymond and Priscilla remains ongoing, with emergency teams on high alert to respond to further flooding or landslides. Residents are advised to follow safety instructions and evacuate if necessary.
The recent floods in Mexico have caused 41 deaths, displaced thousands, and damaged infrastructure across dozens of states. Authorities are coordinating rescue and relief efforts while monitoring ongoing storm threats to prevent further casualties and support affected communities.
