Flydubai has officially started building its new Aircraft Maintenance Centre at Dubai South, a major step in supporting its growing fleet of aircraft. This state-of-the-art facility, which costs millions of dollars, is expected to be completed by the last quarter of 2026. The new centre will allow flydubai to speed up its maintenance processes and have better control over the upkeep of its planes.
Spanning a large area of 32,600 square meters, the maintenance centre will include a spacious aircraft hangar, workshops for technical support, and office buildings. This new development highlights flydubai’s strong focus on building its own in-house maintenance capabilities. As the airline expands its number of aircraft and routes, having this dedicated facility will help ensure higher efficiency and safety.
The groundbreaking event was attended by senior leaders, including Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation and Dubai South. He was joined by Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, and representatives from the Mohammed bin Rashid Aerospace Hub (MBRAH), which is closely involved with the project.
Khalifa Al Zaffin emphasized the importance of the new centre, saying, “This facility reinforces our commitment to supporting the aviation sector through state-of-the-art infrastructure and further positions Dubai as a leading global hub for aviation.” His remarks underline Dubai’s goal to remain a key player in global aviation by investing in modern facilities and technologies.
Flydubai’s CEO, Ghaith Al Ghaith, spoke about the strategic importance of the maintenance centre for the airline’s future. He said, “This is a strategic step towards supporting our growing maintenance requirements and capacity as we take delivery of more aircraft. It reaffirms our long-term commitment to innovation, operational efficiency, and supporting Dubai’s position as a global leader in aviation and business excellence.” His comments show how the airline is preparing for growth and higher operational standards.
The agreement to build this purpose-built Aircraft Maintenance Centre was signed at the 2023 Dubai Airshow in partnership with MBRAH. The centre will be located in Dubai South, a district known for its strong aviation and logistics environment. Its close proximity to Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) is ideal, as the airport is expected to become the world’s largest once fully completed.
The facility will house flydubai’s growing team of more than 600 skilled engineers. These professionals work in different departments such as Line Maintenance, Technical Services, Materials, and Workshops. Their main task is to keep flydubai’s fleet safe, reliable, and ready for flights.
This new Aircraft Maintenance Centre is a major milestone for flydubai and a clear sign of its commitment to growth, quality, and Dubai’s role as a global aviation hub.
