The French government has officially conferred citizenship upon Hollywood icon George Clooney, alongside his wife Amal Clooney, a distinguished human rights attorney, and their twin children, Ella and Alexander. This noteworthy event was recently detailed in the Journal Officiel, which serves as the official publication for French governmental announcements.
Amal Clooney acquired citizenship under her birth name, Amal Alamuddin, maintaining her pre-marital identity. The official document also cited George Clooney’s complete name, Timothy George Clooney, marking a significant step for the family, who have further established their roots in France since buying a rural estate in 2021.
Following their property purchase, George and Amal have designated France as their main residence. In a previous interview, George expressed his desire for a different lifestyle than that of Hollywood. “I feared raising our children in the Los Angeles environment with its overwhelming celebrity culture,” he stated. “I want to shield them from paparazzi and comparisons with other famous children.”
Settling in France allows their twins to enjoy a more conventional upbringing, shielded from the relentless media spotlight. Clooney noted that living in France has afforded them moments of normalcy, such as family dinners and reduced screen time, a stark contrast to the fast-paced lifestyle tied to fame.
While they have embraced their French nationality, it is still uncertain if George Clooney has maintained his American citizenship. Amal, a Lebanese native raised in the UK, along with their twins born in London, now all hold French citizenship through this naturalization process.
This milestone highlights the Clooney family's dedication to fostering a private and well-rounded family lifestyle, opting for the tranquility of the French countryside over the bustling celebrity atmosphere of Los Angeles in raising their children.
