Singapore, October 13, 2026: Gold prices declined on Tuesday as the US dollar remained strong, while investors awaited key American inflation data for fresh indications about the future direction of interest rates set by the US Federal Reserve. The precious metal retreated after reaching a one-week high during the previous trading session.
Spot gold prices fell 0.2 per cent to $4,164.45 per ounce. US gold futures for December delivery also declined 0.1 per cent to $4,187.90 per ounce. The movements reflected cautious trading as market participants assessed currency trends and prepared for important economic releases that could influence gold demand.

The US dollar remained close to its highest level in 18 months, which it reached during the previous session. A stronger dollar generally makes gold and other dollar-denominated commodities more expensive for buyers using other currencies. This can reduce international demand and put downward pressure on precious metal prices.
Investors are closely watching the US Consumer Price Index (CPI), scheduled for release on Wednesday, October 14, followed by the Producer Price Index (PPI) on Thursday, October 15, according to the report. These indicators are expected to provide further information about inflation trends and help markets assess the Federal Reserve's potential interest rate decisions.
Gold prices are sensitive to changes in interest rate expectations because the metal does not generate interest income. When interest rates are high, some investors may prefer assets that offer returns. According to the CME Group's FedWatch tool figures cited in the report, traders were pricing in a 21 per cent probability of a US interest rate hike in October, compared with an 88 per cent probability of a hike in December.
Other precious metals also recorded losses in spot trading on Tuesday. Silver fell 0.5 per cent to $60.01 per ounce, while platinum declined 0.2 per cent to $1,682.47 per ounce. Palladium dropped 0.5 per cent to $1,137.69 per ounce.
Gold's near-term direction may depend on the strength of the US dollar, the inflation figures and changing expectations for Federal Reserve policy. Investors will assess the upcoming economic data for clues about borrowing costs and the potential impact on precious metals. The reported prices reflect market conditions at the time of the Oman News Agency report and may change during subsequent trading sessions.
