Dubai – The Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation (MBRCGI) has revealed the winners of the House of the Future 2.0 Global Competition, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. This announcement took place alongside an exhibition at Emirates Towers Boulevard, presenting the standout projects from both rounds of the competition over a two-month timeline.
The exhibition showcases architectural models of innovative homes, echoing the UAE’s ambition for smart, sustainable cities that prioritize well-being.
Winners of the Competition
The second edition, in collaboration with the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme, honored groundbreaking designs for homes that emphasize technology and sustainability:
1st Place: House of Courts (Germany) – Blends traditional UAE architectural styles like wind towers with modern sustainable techniques.
2nd Place: Modular (UK) – A customizable modular home concept designed for urban futures.
3rd Place: FlexiCourts (China) – Focuses on maximizing natural light and airflow to minimize energy use.
Innovation Awards: Local House (UK) and Regenerative Vernacular (Canada) – Features cultural elements, environmental efficiency, and low-emission 3D construction.
Official Remarks
HE Suhail bin Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, highlighted that the competition marks a significant step in establishing an integrated Emirati housing model that combines sustainability, efficiency, and flexibility. He noted the crucial role of collaboration between MBRCGI and the Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme in nurturing innovative housing solutions in line with the UAE’s vision for smart cities.
HE Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for AI, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, called the competition a vital platform for ingenuity in sustainable architecture, urging designers globally to engage in the future of housing solutions.
Global Engagement and Awards
With over 5,000 submissions from 140 nations, the competition offered a total prize pool of AED 1 million, distributed as follows: AED 500,000 for first place, AED 200,000 for second, AED 100,000 for third, and AED 200,000 for the Innovation Award. Entries were assessed by a panel of esteemed architects based on criteria like architectural excellence, sustainability, adaptability, and speed of execution.
