India has conveyed its serious concerns to Poland regarding what it terms the "selective and unfair targeting" of New Delhi in relation to its trading commitments with Russia during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar advised Warsaw against extending any form of support to Pakistan, particularly concerning cross-border terrorism.
In a pivotal conversation held in New Delhi, Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and Jaishankar took stock of the swiftly growing India-Poland Strategic Partnership. Their discussions covered essential regional and global concerns, emphasizing collaborative efforts in trade, investment, defense, security, clean technologies, and digital innovation.
Jaishankar pointed out that the dialogue took place amidst significant global upheaval, underscoring the need for communication among nations from differing regions. He highlighted the upgrade of the India-Poland relationship to a strategic partnership in August 2024 and mentioned a review of the Action Plan for 2024-28 aimed at strengthening cooperation.
The conversation soon transitioned to geopolitical issues, with a spotlight on the Ukraine crisis. Jaishankar reaffirmed India's consistent viewpoint advocated on international platforms, including in New York and Paris, affirming it again in New Delhi. He stated that the selective targeting of India’s independent foreign policy regarding the Ukraine crisis is both unjust and unwarranted, advocating for diplomacy and dialogue over alignment with bloc-based positions.
A significant point raised was the issue of cross-border terrorism, which has long been a concern for India. Jaishankar reminded Minister Sikorski about the threats facing India from its borders and expressed that Poland should uphold a strict zero-tolerance policy against terrorism. He underscored the need for Poland not to support or enable terrorist networks impacting India’s vicinity, subtly referencing Pakistan.
India has recently intensified its diplomatic efforts to inform European nations and institutions about Pakistan’s role in financing terrorism and providing refuge to extremist factions. The message was clear: while India cherishes its growing partnership with Poland and the EU, it anticipates clear and principled stances against terrorism.
Jaishankar’s appeal for Poland’s zero tolerance regarding terrorism is also seen as a response to Poland’s earlier remarks on Kashmir during its visit to Islamabad in October 2025.
Minister Sikorski acknowledged India's concerns, agreeing that the selective application of tariffs is unjust and could lead to widespread disruptions in global commerce. He shared Poland’s experiences with terrorism, referencing recent incidents like arson and sabotage on railways, highlighting the necessity for international cooperation to address cross-border terrorism.
This meeting underscores the strengthening economic and strategic ties between India and Poland. Poland is one of India’s primary trading partners in Central Europe, with bilateral trade approaching USD 7 billion and Indian investments surpassing USD 3 billion. Both nations expressed optimism regarding the growth of their strategic alliance, even as India firmly delineates its position concerning geopolitical pressures and terrorism.
