In a significant move, Indonesia has revealed a decrease in the cost of undertaking the Haj in 2026, slashing the fee by approximately Rp2 million (about RM465) per pilgrim. This comes despite escalating aviation fuel prices, highlighting the government’s intent to alleviate economic burdens on its lower-income population.
President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that this initiative embodies the government's dedication to supporting its constituents. The total cost for the Haj has now been established at around Rp87.4 million per pilgrim, following an agreement with the national parliament.
Moreover, significant enhancements have been made regarding the waiting times for Haj applicants. Officials have confirmed that the previous maximum wait period, which extended up to 48 years, is now reduced to approximately 26 years starting from 2026. Additional measures are in progress to further diminish this timeframe.
Indonesia is also aiming for logistical advancements, including plans for a dedicated Haj terminal in Saudi Arabia and a collaborative aviation strategy to streamline flights. Officials are optimistic that these initiatives will lower travel expenses, boost efficiency, and create a better experience for pilgrims in the coming years.
