Israeli Forces Target and Kill Senior Iranian Quds Force Operative in Lebanon

Post by : Meena Hassan

On Thursday, the Israeli military revealed that it carried out a targeted operation in southern Lebanon, resulting in the death of a senior operative associated with Iran's elite Quds Force. Israeli authorities claim this individual was instrumental in strategizing attacks against Israel from Lebanon and Syria.

The deceased has been identified as Hussein Mahmoud Marshad al-Jawhari, recognized by Israel as a significant figure within Unit 840, a secretive division of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps entrusted with overseas missions, including intelligence operations and attack strategy.

Israeli officials indicated that al-Jawhari was acting under direct orders from Iranian military leaders and was engaged in activities labeled as “terror operations” targeting Israeli defense and security apparatus. His assassination reportedly occurred in the region of Ansariyeh in Lebanon, although specific operational details were not publicly disclosed.

This incident follows heightened tensions between Israel and Iran, which escalated after a brief confrontation earlier this year. Israel has been implementing frequent strikes in Lebanon, asserting the necessity to thwart Iranian-supported Hezbollah from restoring its military strength.

Last November, a ceasefire backed by the U.S. concluded over a year of conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, mandating the disarmament of Hezbollah in specific areas near the Israeli border. However, Israel continues to assert that Iranian-supported operations remain a substantial security risk in the region.
