Former Spain and Barcelona defender Jordi Alba has revealed that he will retire from professional football at the end of the 2025 MLS season. The 36-year-old currently plays for Inter Miami, where he reunited with former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets. Alba announced his decision through a video on Instagram, expressing gratitude for the experiences and lessons football has given him.

Alba said, “The moment has come to close a truly meaningful chapter in my life. I’ve decided to bring my professional football career to an end at the conclusion of this season. I do so with complete conviction, peace and happiness.” He thanked teammates, coaches, staff, and even rivals for inspiring him to give his best throughout his career.
Achievements with Barcelona
During his illustrious tenure at Barcelona, Alba played 605 matches, scoring 37 goals and providing 107 assists. He helped Barcelona secure six LaLiga titles and one UEFA Champions League trophy. Alba expressed his deep attachment to the club, calling it “the club of my life” and remembering his decade-long journey full of unforgettable memories and major victories.
Impact at Inter Miami
Since joining Inter Miami in 2023, Alba made 63 appearances, scoring 10 goals and providing 27 assists. He earned two MLS All-Star selections and quickly became a key figure in the squad. Alba thanked Inter Miami for welcoming him and praised the fans, stating, “You taught me that the shirt isn’t just worn, it’s felt.”

The team will host Atlanta United in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Saturday, followed by a final regular-season match against Nashville SC on October 18. Alba’s final matches will mark the closing chapter of a celebrated football career.
