King Abdullah II Talks With President Macron On Gaza & West Bank

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan recently held a telephone conversation with President Emmanuel Macron of France. The discussion focused on the current situation in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as the broader regional developments in the Middle East. The call underlined the commitment of both leaders to address the humanitarian crisis and to support diplomatic efforts for peace and stability.

During the conversation, the leaders exchanged views on the ongoing conflicts and the urgent need for coordinated international action to protect civilians and provide aid to affected areas. Both King Abdullah II and President Macron reaffirmed the importance of constructive dialogue and collaboration between their nations to tackle regional challenges.

Urgent Need for Humanitarian Aid in Gaza

His Majesty King Abdullah II emphasised the critical need for international support to stop the war in Gaza. He called for immediate measures to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches all residents without delay. The King highlighted the importance of providing basic necessities such as food, water, medical care, and shelter to the people affected by the conflict.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza has worsened due to ongoing violence and blockades. King Abdullah II stressed that civilians must be protected under international law and that humanitarian corridors should be opened to deliver essential supplies safely. The leaders discussed ways to mobilise international organisations and friendly nations to provide the necessary assistance.

Rejection of Israeli Occupation Plans

During the conversation, His Majesty clearly stated Jordan’s rejection of Israel’s plans to expand military control over Gaza. He also opposed the expansion of Israeli settlements in the West Bank, which he described as a threat to peace and stability in the region.

King Abdullah II stressed that such actions undermine efforts to achieve a fair and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue. He highlighted that the international community must hold accountable those who continue policies that violate international law and the rights of Palestinians. Both leaders agreed on the need to strengthen diplomatic pressure to prevent further escalation.

Support for Palestinian Rights and Statehood

A central topic of the conversation was the rights of the Palestinian people. His Majesty stressed that Palestinians must receive their just and legitimate rights, including the establishment of an independent state based on the two-state solution. He underlined that East Jerusalem should serve as the capital of the Palestinian state, in accordance with international resolutions.

King Abdullah II praised France’s intention to recognise the State of Palestine. He emphasised that recognition by international partners is essential to support Palestinians in achieving self-determination and securing peace in the region. The King also highlighted the importance of protecting Palestinian civilians and ensuring their ability to live safely within their territories.

France’s Support for Peace and Diplomacy

The King commended President Macron and France for their efforts to support peace in the region. He noted that France has played an important role both diplomatically and through humanitarian aid initiatives. The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen coordination between France, Jordan, and other international partners to enhance stability in the Middle East.

They highlighted France’s contributions to mediation efforts and humanitarian projects, which aim to ease suffering and prevent further escalation. The conversation reinforced the importance of international partnerships in addressing conflicts and promoting long-term stability in Gaza, the West Bank, and surrounding areas.

Emphasis on Regional Security and Stability

In addition to discussing the Palestinian issue, the leaders also focused on the broader regional security situation. His Majesty King Abdullah II emphasised the importance of supporting Syria and Lebanon in maintaining their territorial sovereignty, stability, and security. He noted that any threats to these countries could affect the wider region and disrupt efforts to achieve peace.

The leaders discussed measures to enhance regional cooperation and the role of international organisations in supporting stability. They also stressed the need for countries in the region to engage in constructive dialogue to resolve conflicts and prevent external interference.

Importance of International Cooperation

Both King Abdullah II and President Macron agreed that lasting peace requires the cooperation of the global community. They stressed the need for coordinated international efforts to address crises, provide humanitarian assistance, and support diplomatic solutions. The leaders highlighted the importance of involving regional and global partners to ensure that efforts to resolve conflicts are effective and sustainable.

They also discussed ways to strengthen multilateral frameworks that protect civilians, uphold international law, and promote dialogue between conflicting parties. King Abdullah II emphasised that these efforts are essential to prevent further escalation and to create an environment conducive to peace and development.

Commitment to Peaceful Solutions

During the call, the King and President Macron reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful solutions for the Palestinian issue and the broader Middle East. They stressed that violence and occupation are barriers to achieving justice and long-term stability. King Abdullah II highlighted that dialogue, negotiation, and adherence to international law are the only paths to a fair resolution.

The leaders also discussed strategies to support Palestinian institutions and ensure that Palestinians can exercise their rights fully. They stressed the importance of maintaining unity among Palestinians and supporting governance structures that promote peace, security, and development.

Role of France in Regional Stability

France’s active role in promoting peace and providing humanitarian aid was a key focus of the conversation. King Abdullah II expressed appreciation for France’s diplomatic engagement and humanitarian initiatives, noting that such efforts are critical in addressing immediate needs and supporting long-term stability.

The leaders also discussed ongoing diplomatic efforts in other areas of the Middle East, including supporting Syria and Lebanon, and fostering cooperation between regional countries to address shared challenges. They agreed to continue close coordination to enhance the effectiveness of international efforts.

The telephone conversation between King Abdullah II and President Macron underscored the shared commitment of Jordan and France to promoting peace, stability, and humanitarian assistance in the Middle East. The leaders agreed to continue working closely on regional issues, particularly in Gaza and the West Bank, and to strengthen international cooperation to support the rights of the Palestinian people.

His Majesty King Abdullah II concluded by reaffirming Jordan’s dedication to diplomatic solutions and humanitarian efforts. He stressed that Jordan will continue to engage with international partners to ensure that peace, stability, and justice are upheld in the region. President Macron expressed France’s support for these initiatives and confirmed his country’s commitment to working with Jordan and other partners for lasting solutions.
