Dubai, UAE: Formula 1 has announced that the 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix will be held at Malaysia's Sepang International Circuit from October 2 to 4, following an agreement between the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), Formula One Management (FOM), and the governments of Bahrain and Malaysia.
The race, which remains subject to final contractual formalities and approval by the FIA World Motor Sport Council, will officially be run as the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia. It will be positioned between the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and the Singapore Grand Prix, while the rest of the 2026 Formula 1 calendar will continue as originally planned.
Bahrain's Place on the Formula 1 Calendar Preserved
The revised arrangement ensures Bahrain's Grand Prix remains part of the 2026 championship despite logistical challenges that made hosting the race in its traditional location difficult. Through close cooperation between Formula 1's governing bodies and both governments, organisers were able to secure an alternative venue without affecting the overall championship schedule.
Officials described the decision as an example of Formula 1's ability to adapt quickly while protecting the interests of teams, partners, broadcasters and millions of fans worldwide.
Sepang Returns to Formula 1
The return of Sepang International Circuit marks Formula 1's comeback to one of the sport's most celebrated venues. The Malaysian circuit has long been recognised for producing exciting races thanks to its fast layout, technical corners and unpredictable tropical weather.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said the agreement reflects the strong cooperation between Formula One Management, Bahrain and Malaysia. He noted that every option had been carefully considered, with the safety and wellbeing of teams, officials, volunteers and spectators remaining the highest priority.
He added that Malaysia has played an important role in Formula 1's history and said Sepang's return demonstrates the strength of international collaboration within motorsport.
Bahrain and Malaysia Welcome the Agreement
Bahrain Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa said the initiative reflects the close relationship between Bahrain and Malaysia. He said Bahrain remains committed to Formula 1 and thanked the FIA, Formula One Management, Bahrain International Circuit, Sepang International Circuit and participating teams for making the event possible.
Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia is honoured to host the Bahrain Grand Prix and looks forward to welcoming Formula 1 teams, officials and supporters back to Sepang. He described the event as a symbol of the strong partnership between the two countries and an opportunity to showcase Malaysia's world-class sporting infrastructure and hospitality.
Formula 1 Confident Fans Will Enjoy Sepang's Return
Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali said the revised schedule highlights the sport's ability to overcome challenges through collaboration and innovation. He thanked the governments of Bahrain and Malaysia, as well as the FIA, for their support in ensuring the championship maintains a complete calendar.
He added that Sepang's return is excellent news for Formula 1 fans, giving them another opportunity to watch racing at one of the championship's most iconic circuits.
