Gulf Leaders Denounce Israeli Attacks on Lebanon

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, has issued a strong condemnation of the persistent Israeli military assaults on Lebanon, labeling them as grave infringements of international law that jeopardize the safety of civilians and the stability of the region.

In a press statement released on Monday, Al Yamahi conveyed serious concern over the rising hostilities, shedding light on reports of civilian injuries, extensive destruction in heavily populated urban areas, and considerable harm to vital infrastructure across Lebanon. He maintained that these actions starkly contravene international humanitarian law and contradict the ideals set forth in the United Nations Charter.

The Arab Parliament Speaker cautioned that the ongoing violence could lead to significant repercussions for regional security and stability. He pointed out that continual strikes on civilian locales and crucial facilities threaten to aggravate the humanitarian crisis and escalate tensions throughout the Middle East.

Al Yamahi urged the global community, especially the United Nations Security Council, to spring into action to halt the aggressions and to ensure adherence to existing international resolutions. He called on international players to apply pressure to cease military operations and to compel Israel to follow United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, aimed at preserving peace and security along the Lebanese-Israeli frontier.

Reiterating the Arab Parliament's steadfast support for Lebanon, Al Yamahi emphasized the necessity of upholding the nation’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. He expressed his backing for Lebanese state institutions as they strive to maintain national security, guarantee stability, and reinforce the authority of the state across all Lebanese regions.

This statement illustrates the mounting regional apprehension regarding the ramifications of the conflict and highlights the demand for immediate diplomatic initiatives to avert further escalation and protect civilian lives.
