Nama Water Services Boosts Sanitation & Water Projects in Muscat

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Nama Water Services is moving forward with important projects to improve water and sanitation services across many areas in Oman. The goal is to provide better sewage networks, treatment plants, and pumping stations. They are also working on treated water networks to help supply clean and safe water to the people. These projects are part of a larger plan to improve the infrastructure system in cities and towns, especially in the Muscat Governorate.

Big Sanitation Projects in Muscat’s Bawsher Area

One of the most important areas where these projects are happening is in the Wilayat of Bawsher in Muscat. Here, seven sanitation network projects are being carried out at a total cost of about 123 million Omani Rials. These projects include building main sewage pipes, smaller connecting lines, and other related works to improve the sewage system for many neighborhoods.

Building Sanitation Network in Bawsher Heights

A major project is the construction of a new sanitation network in Bawsher Heights. This project costs 17.5 million Rials and will serve about 60,000 people. The work started recently and is expected to be finished in 2028 after four years of construction. The project involves laying down 68 kilometers of sewage pipes, installing 1,100 inspection chambers, and connecting about 6,850 houses to the system. Currently, the project is about 10 percent complete.

Sanitation Network Project in South Al Azaiba

Another project is underway in South Al Azaiba with a budget of 5.6 million Rials. It will benefit roughly 13,000 people living in that area. This project covers 49 kilometers of sewage pipes, 1,714 inspection chambers, and 722 home connections. It will be completed by 2027 after three years of work. At present, it is about 12 percent finished.

Repairing Old Sanitation Lines in North Al Ghubrah and North Al Azaiba

Nama Water Services is also repairing and improving old sewage networks in North Al Ghubrah and North Al Azaiba. This rehabilitation project costs 24 million Rials and will last for four years, starting after mid-September 2025. The project includes replacing an old main sewage line about 4 kilometers long, fixing 812 inspection chambers, and upgrading the connection between the two areas and the pumping station. In addition, 80 deep inspection chambers will be replaced to ensure better sewage flow.

New Pumping Station in Bawsher and Al Ansab

To help manage the increased sewage from the growing networks, a new pumping station is being built in Bawsher and Al Ansab. This project has a budget of 21 million Rials and will take four years to complete, finishing in 2028. The station will have two main force mains (large pipes that push sewage through) each 17 kilometers long, and a 3.5-kilometer gravity-fed line that collects sewage from the two areas. This pumping station will improve the collection and movement of sewage to treatment plants.

Ongoing Sanitation Network in Al Ansab

The sanitation project in Al Ansab is progressing as well. It is currently 8 percent complete. The project includes 75.5 kilometers of sewage pipes, 1,160 inspection chambers, and will connect 4,180 homes. It costs 25.7 million Rials and will be finished in 2028 after four years of work. This will help provide better sewage services to people living in Al Ansab.

Two Water and Sanitation Projects in Al Khuwair Area

In the Al Khuwair area of Bawsher, two separate projects are being implemented.

The first project costs 14.3 million Rials. It will connect 882 homes and includes 30 kilometers of sewage pipes, 15 kilometers of potable (drinking) water pipes, and 1 kilometer of treated water pipes. This project will take five years and is expected to be finished in 2029.

The second project in Al Khuwair costs 15 million Rials. It will connect 858 homes and includes 30 kilometers of sewage pipes, 19 kilometers of potable water pipes, and 2.2 kilometers of treated water pipes. This project will also finish in 2029 after five years of construction.

Importance of These Projects for Muscat

These projects are very important for the Muscat Governorate and its residents. They will provide better sewage collection and treatment, which improves public health and the environment. Clean water supply networks will also help ensure that people have safe and reliable drinking water. The large investments show the government’s focus on improving infrastructure and meeting the needs of growing populations.

How These Projects Benefit the Community

The new sanitation networks and pumping stations will reduce sewage problems such as leaks or blockages. This will lead to cleaner streets and reduce health risks from untreated waste. The treated water networks will provide clean water for homes and businesses, supporting better living conditions.

Thousands of homes will be connected to these systems, which will help many families live healthier lives. The projects also create jobs during construction and improve the overall economy by supporting urban development.

Timeline and Progress of Work

Most of the projects started recently or will start soon, with work continuing for several years. Many projects are planned to finish between 2027 and 2029. Some are already underway, with small percentages of work completed. These long-term projects show a steady effort to build strong and modern water and sanitation systems.

Nama Water Services’ Commitment to Oman’s Development

Nama Water Services is committed to helping Oman develop its infrastructure in line with national plans. By improving water and sanitation networks, they support better health, environmental protection, and economic growth. These projects in Muscat will serve as examples of how infrastructure development can help improve the quality of life for many people.
