Netanyahu has faced criticism over his government’s failure to prevent the Hamas-led October 7, 2023 attack on Israel. During the campaign event, he argued that he and Likud were capable of guaranteeing Israel’s security.
The prime minister referred to Israel’s military actions across the region and said the country’s military mission should continue. His remarks included references to Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas, making regional security a prominent part of his campaign message.
Netanyahu also criticized political rivals over what he described as possible territorial concessions. He pointed to Israeli military positions in Lebanon, Syria and Gaza while presenting his own approach to territorial and security policy.
Israel is scheduled to hold its national election on October 27, 2026. The campaign includes Netanyahu’s Likud and its allied parties as well as opposition groups led by centrist politician Gadi Eisenkot. Current polling shows a competitive and divided political landscape, with no definitive outcome established before the vote.
Netanyahu is also facing an ongoing criminal trial involving corruption charges, which he denies. The election campaign is taking place against the backdrop of the wars and regional conflicts that have shaped Israeli politics since 2023.
