In a pivotal moment for international collaboration, Oman and Botswana formalized a number of crucial agreements at Al Baraka Palace in Muscat, witnessed by Haitham bin Tariq and President Duma Gideon Boko during an official visit.
These agreements are strategically targeting vital sectors such as mineral exploration, petroleum storage infrastructure, and renewable energy initiatives, creating new avenues for bilateral investment and enhancing economic relations.
A standout agreement involves a partnership between OQ and Botswana Oil, focused on evaluating the fuel supply framework, storage facilities, and sustainable energy security solutions for Botswana.
The collaboration seeks to establish an integrated platform for fuel supply by merging import operations, coastal storage capabilities, and inland reserves, aimed at bolstering the efficiency of the supply chain and ensuring a reliable fuel supply across the region.
Another significant agreement pertains to an ambitious solar energy venture led by O-Green, targeting a 500 MW photovoltaic power plant project in Maun, Botswana, which will also incorporate advanced battery storage systems for consistent energy provision.
Officials highlighted that this renewable energy project stands as one of Botswana’s largest, playing a vital role in the nation’s target of sourcing 50% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030, while potentially doubling the present power generation capacity.
Additionally, a mining cooperation pact was established to promote the exploration and development of mineral resources through collaborative investment, knowledge sharing, and technical cooperation, fostering long-term economic advancement.
