Oman has opened the Al Mughsail Bridge and connecting road to traffic as part of the first phase of the project, according to Eng. Khamis Mohammed Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport.
He said the opening marks the completion of the project's first phase, while the remaining work is continuing. The outstanding works include completing aesthetic features, construction activities, and utility services. These are scheduled to be finished during the first quarter of next year.
Eng. Khamis Mohammed Al Shamakhi said the project includes the construction of a reinforced concrete bridge measuring approximately 540 metres in length.
The bridge is supported by 17 columns and two side abutments and stands at a height of 12 metres. The project also includes an underpass that has been built to improve traffic movement to nearby tourist attractions, including the Al Mughsail waterfront and Marneef Cave, which is known for its natural fountains.

The project also features side parking areas and a pedestrian walkway with lighting. The walkway varies in width from 2 metres to 7 metres to accommodate visitors.
In addition, the bridge has been equipped with all required road safety measures, including concrete and metal safety barriers, directional signs, and warning road markings. These safety features have been installed in line with the standard specifications outlined in the Road Design Manual of the Sultanate of Oman.
Authorities confirmed that while traffic is now moving across the bridge under the first phase, work on the remaining construction, utility services, and aesthetic improvements will continue until completion during the first quarter of next year.
