A devastating fire at a residence on Vancouver Island has tragically resulted in one life lost and another individual suffering severe injuries, leading to an active investigation by local officials.

Emergency responders, comprising police and firefighters, arrived at the scene in Sooke, situated to the west of Victoria, at around 5:21 a.m. on Sunday. Upon reaching the location, they discovered a single-family home engulfed in flames.

As confirmed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), one person was declared dead at the scene. Another individual was rescued and subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries, where their recovery is being closely monitored.

The situation has been described as profoundly upsetting by authorities. Cpl. He acknowledged the emotional toll such incidents impose on the community.

Investigators from the RCMP, local fire services, and the BC Coroners Service are collaborating diligently to ascertain the fire's cause. Currently, authorities indicate no signs linking this event to criminal behavior.

Ongoing investigations are underway as officials collect evidence and evaluate the site. Police urge anyone with relevant information to assist in the investigation by contacting the local RCMP.
