OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Go in India With New Affordable Features

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Sam Altman-led OpenAI announced the launch of ChatGPT Go on Tuesday, a new subscription plan for Indian users. The plan is designed to be affordable while offering enhanced features such as higher message limits, image generation, file uploads, and chat memory. These features use OpenAI’s latest AI model, GPT-5, which also provides better support for Indian languages.

The new subscription costs Rs 399 per month, making it more accessible compared to existing plans. Payments can be made through India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI), simplifying transactions for local users.

ChatGPT Go Offers Advanced Features

ChatGPT Go gives Indian users access to advanced capabilities at a lower cost. Features include the ability to upload files for analysis, generate images from text, and store chat history for ongoing conversations. These capabilities aim to enhance learning, productivity, and creativity for users in different fields.

OpenAI stated that the plan is specifically designed for India to help millions of users make better use of ChatGPT for work, study, and creative tasks. It reflects the company’s focus on offering tailored solutions for a rapidly growing market.

Comparison With Other Plans

Currently, OpenAI offers other subscription plans in India, including ChatGPT Plus at Rs 1,999 per month and ChatGPT Pro at Rs 19,900 per month. ChatGPT Go is significantly cheaper, making it an attractive choice for users who want premium features at a lower price.

The introduction of this plan is part of OpenAI’s strategy to make AI tools more accessible and widely used in India, helping businesses, students, and individuals utilize AI for practical purposes.

OpenAI Highlights India’s Usage

Nick Turley, Vice-President and Head of ChatGPT at OpenAI, highlighted that millions of people in India use ChatGPT daily for learning, work, creativity, and problem-solving. He said the launch of ChatGPT Go is inspired by how deeply integrated ChatGPT has become in Indian users’ daily lives.

OpenAI sees India as a key market for AI adoption. The company is focusing on products and services that meet the needs of Indian users while supporting the growth of AI-driven businesses.

India: A Growing Market for OpenAI

India is currently the second-largest market for ChatGPT globally and may soon become the largest. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, mentioned that the rapid growth in India demonstrates the potential of the market. Users in India are not only adopting AI for personal use but also starting new companies and integrating AI into business processes.

OpenAI is committed to working with local partners in India to develop AI solutions that are tailored to local needs, ensuring the technology is useful and accessible across industries.

Tripling of ChatGPT Users in India

Earlier in 2024, during his visit to India, Sam Altman revealed that the number of ChatGPT users in the country had tripled within the year. This rapid growth highlights India’s high demand for AI tools that improve productivity, learning, and business operations.

The launch of ChatGPT Go further supports this growth by providing an affordable plan that allows more users to access advanced AI features without financial barriers.

Data Sovereignty Measures

OpenAI has also focused on data storage in India. In May, the company announced that the data of Indian users of ChatGPT Enterprise, ChatGPT Edu, and the OpenAI API platform would be stored locally in India.

This move helps Indian companies meet local data sovereignty regulations while still utilizing OpenAI’s AI solutions. It ensures that businesses can leverage AI technology safely and legally within the country.

Supporting Businesses With AI

The introduction of ChatGPT Go and local data storage is designed to support Indian companies in developing new applications with AI. Businesses can use ChatGPT for customer support, content creation, data analysis, and other operational needs, improving efficiency and innovation.

By offering tailored AI products, OpenAI encourages businesses in India to adopt AI responsibly while expanding the use of AI across various sectors.

Affordability and Accessibility

ChatGPT Go’s price of Rs 399 per month makes AI more accessible to a wider audience. The plan ensures that students, freelancers, small businesses, and creative professionals can take advantage of advanced AI features without high costs.

Payment through UPI simplifies subscriptions and makes the process easier for users who may not have international payment methods, further improving accessibility in the Indian market.

Enhanced Local Language Support

GPT-5, the AI model supporting ChatGPT Go, offers enhanced support for Indian languages. This is particularly important in a country with diverse languages, enabling users to communicate and work with ChatGPT more effectively.

Local language support also allows businesses to create content, interact with customers, and solve problems in regional languages, making AI more practical and inclusive for Indian users.

Future Plans for India

The launch of ChatGPT Go is part of OpenAI’s broader plan to introduce more products and services specifically for India. The company aims to adapt its AI tools to meet local needs while encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship.

OpenAI is actively collaborating with Indian companies and institutions to ensure that AI technology works effectively for the country’s economy and social development.

AI for Every Indian User

With the launch of ChatGPT Go, OpenAI is making advanced AI tools more affordable, accessible, and useful for Indian users. By offering features like chat memory, file uploads, image generation, and local language support, the company empowers individuals and businesses to leverage AI in their daily activities.

This initiative also aligns with India’s growing role in the global AI market, positioning the country as a leader in adopting and integrating AI technology. ChatGPT Go is a significant step toward enabling millions of users in India to access high-quality AI tools at an affordable price.
