OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, announced a new set of partnerships with Spotify, Zillow, and Mattel, marking a big step toward growing its business around the world. The goal is to make artificial intelligence useful for more companies in different industries.
At its developer conference in San Francisco’s Fort Mason Center, OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman said that the company’s next big focus is on the enterprise market. “You should expect a huge focus from us on really leaning into enterprise,” Altman told reporters after his keynote speech.
AI Coming to Everyday Apps
OpenAI also introduced new tools to help developers build better and smarter applications. These tools will let other apps connect directly with ChatGPT. This means users can ask questions or perform tasks from inside those apps without switching platforms.
During a live demo, an engineer showed how ChatGPT could quickly create a personalized Spotify playlist or help narrow down Zillow property listings to only those with specific requirements—like three bedrooms and three bathrooms.
Nick Turley, head of ChatGPT, said that OpenAI goal is to make ChatGPT much more than a single app. “In the next six months, you’ll see ChatGPT evolve from an app that’s useful into something that feels like an operating system,” Turley explained.
Building a Strong Platform for Businesses
Greg Brockman, OpenAI’s president, said the company wants to build the best possible AI platform for business users. This means companies in music, real estate, entertainment, and education can use OpenAI’s tools to save time and increase efficiency.
Following the announcement, stocks of companies linked to OpenAI—including Zillow and Figma—rose in early trading. Shares of AMD also surged more than 34 percent earlier in the day after it signed a deal to supply chips for OpenAI growing computing needs.
Data Safety and Privacy First
After privacy concerns were raised, Spotify confirmed that it would not share any user data with OpenAI to train AI models. When asked about other partners, Nick Turley said OpenAI will always respect users’ data settings. “We will follow whatever choices users make in their data preferences,” he assured.
Shifting Focus from Consumers to Enterprises
Since ChatGPT’s launch nearly three years ago, OpenAI has become one of the most talked-about technology companies in the world. Most of its users so far have been individuals—students, professionals, and creators. But now, the company is turning to large organizations that can use AI for business tasks and customer services.
Sam Altman explained that the company had always planned to serve the enterprise sector but waited until its models were powerful enough. “We needed to let the models get better. The models are there now,” Altman said.
Research Turning Into Real-World Use
Greg Brockman added that OpenAI’s research, including its strong results in math competitions, will help improve its AI tools for business use. These advancements could help companies in industries like finance, data science, and logistics.
However, OpenAI faces tough competition from tech giants such as Microsoft and Alphabet (Google’s parent company). These companies are also investing heavily in AI development, though profits have not yet caught up with the spending, according to recent reports.
Balancing Ambition and Profitability
OpenAI recently shared plans to build more than $1 trillion worth of computing power to meet global AI demand. It also launched Sora, a video-making AI app that quickly became one of Apple’s most popular downloads.
While these projects show how fast the company is growing, they also come with heavy costs. Altman admitted that OpenAI is not yet profitable but added, “It’s not in my top ten concerns, but we obviously someday have to be very profitable.”
AI Future Holds Promise and Risks
Some investors are worried that AI may be in a “bubble,” with companies spending too much without guaranteed returns. Altman agreed that “some parts of the AI industry are kind of bubbly,” but said that real long-term value will come from the technology’s practical use.
OpenAI’s new partnerships with Spotify, Zillow, and Mattel show that the company is moving beyond research and into real-world business applications. From creating music playlists to helping people find homes, AI is becoming a helpful tool in daily life.
