PLUS Advises Motorists to Prepare for Holiday Traffic Surge

Post by : Shakul

PLUS Malaysia Berhad is urging drivers to strategically plan their journeys ahead of the anticipated traffic spikes following the Hari Raya Aidiladha festivities and the extended vacation period. The highway operator recommends utilizing the MyPLUS-TTA digital travel scheduling system to alleviate congestion and facilitate easier travel on the country’s busiest expressways.

Traffic volume is projected to rise substantially between June 4 and June 7, marking these dates as peak travel days. PLUS estimates that approximately 2.2 million vehicles will traverse its highway network daily during this stretch. This surge is largely attributed to holidaymakers returning to urban areas, particularly the Klang Valley, after celebrating with family during the festive and school holidays.

To handle the expected traffic surge, PLUS advises motorists to adhere to the suggested travel times available in the PLUS mobile application. The MyPLUS-TTA platform offers recommended departure schedules aimed at distributing traffic more evenly throughout the day, thus reducing congestion at critical highway segments and minimizing travel delays.

In response to the anticipated traffic volume, PLUS has initiated Smart Lane operations at 33 key locations along its expressway network. These temporary measures are designed to enhance traffic flow and optimize road capacity during peak congestion periods. Additionally, traffic management personnel and monitoring teams will be deployed for rapid response to any incidents disrupting traffic movement.

The company assures travelers that all facilities at Rest and Service Areas, as well as lay-bys, will operate continuously. Key amenities including food outlets, prayer facilities, restrooms, and convenience services will be available around the clock to accommodate the influx of travelers during the holiday period.

Motorists are reminded to verify their Touch 'n Go card balances and ensure that their RFID and JustGO accounts have adequate funds before entering the highways. PLUS highlighted that insufficient toll payment balances can lead to delays at toll booths, exacerbating congestion during busy travel times.

For real-time traffic updates, travelers can consult the PLUS App, Waze, Google Maps, electronic message boards, national radio stations, and the company’s official social media platforms. PLUS emphasizes that careful journey planning, compliance with traffic advisories, and safe driving habits are crucial for a smooth and safe return during one of the year’s busiest travel seasons.
