Qatar Highlights Role of Middle Powers at London Conference

Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, took part in a roundtable discussion on middle powers and the reshaping of the global order during the annual London Conference organized by Chatham House.

The discussion focused on changes taking place in the international system and the increasing influence of middle powers in supporting regional and global stability.

Middle Powers Can Help Strengthen Stability

During the session, Dr. Al Ansari spoke about the major changes affecting the international landscape. He said that middle powers are playing an increasingly important role in promoting stability at both the regional and international levels, especially at a time when competition among major powers continues to create new challenges.

He highlighted the need for countries with growing regional influence to contribute through cooperation and constructive engagement.

Dr. Al Ansari also shared lessons learned from recent regional developments. He stressed that diplomacy and close regional coordination remain essential tools for managing crises effectively.

He added that partnerships and cooperation between countries can help strengthen security and support long-term regional stability.

Strategic Autonomy Requires a Broader Approach

Speaking about current global developments, Dr. Al Ansari said that the changing international environment requires a broader understanding of strategic autonomy.

He explained that countries should strengthen their ability to respond to challenges involving security, defense, energy, and supply chains. According to him, improving these capabilities can help build a more cooperative and effective international order.
