The signing ceremony was held at Sheikh Saud’s palace in Saqr bin Mohamed City. During the event, Sheikh Saud welcomed JoeBen Bevirt, CEO and founder of Joby Aviation, and Duncan Walker, CEO of Skyports. Eng. He noted that the project represents a major investment in people’s quality of life while strengthening Ras Al Khaimah’s position as a global destination for living, working, tourism, and investment.
Transformative Leap For The Emirate
The ruler highlighted that this step bridges Ras Al Khaimah’s ambitious present with its bright future. Sheikh Saud described the initiative as a transformative leap, turning aspirations into lasting achievements for future generations.
Partnership Details And Roles
The partnership brings together RAKTA’s direct support, Skyports’ expertise in developing vertiport infrastructure, and Joby Aviation’s all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Together, they will design, develop, and operate the first air taxi service in Ras Al Khaimah, creating a modern and sustainable transport solution.
Alignment With 2030 Mobility Plan
Aligned with Ras Al Khaimah’s 2030 Mobility Master Plan, the air taxi service will meet growing demand for fast and convenient transport within the emirate and across the UAE. The service will establish an inter-emirate corridor, connecting Joby’s planned operations in Dubai with key hospitality developments in Ras Al Khaimah.
Impact On Travel Times
For travelers and daily commuters, the air taxi service promises a dramatic reduction in travel times. The journey from Dubai International Airport to Al Marjan Island, which can take over an hour by car, could take less than 15 minutes with Joby’s air taxi, flying a direct path at its top speed of 321 kph (200 mph).
Features Of Joby’s Aircraft
Joby’s eVTOL aircraft is designed to transport a pilot and up to four passengers. It operates with minimal noise and zero emissions, offering faster, quieter, and more convenient travel. The service aims to enhance mobility for short commutes, quick trips, and seamless regional connections.
A New Era In RAK Mobility
The air taxi initiative in Ras Al Khaimah represents a significant step toward sustainable and innovative transport solutions. With government support and international expertise, the project aims to transform travel within the emirate and beyond, improving convenience, efficiency, and the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
