Wiles Sparks Controversy with Remarks on Musk, Vance, and DOJ

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Susie Wiles, Chief of Staff at the White House, has ignited significant political controversy with frank comments regarding high-profile individuals within President Donald Trump’s circle during a series of interviews with Vanity Fair.

In her interview, Wiles characterized Tesla's CEO Elon Musk as a self-admitted ketamine user, although she clarified she lacked firsthand knowledge of any drug usage. Her remarks were made while reflecting on Musk’s erratic management style during his tenure overseeing the Department of Government Efficiency, which aimed at drastically reducing the federal workforce.

Wiles described Musk as a “complete solo actor,” emphasizing that his rapid decision-making led to sudden closures of government projects, including initiatives overseen by the US Agency for International Development (USAID). She expressed her initial shock and confronted Musk directly after programs were eliminated that President Trump wanted to retain.

Musk has previously denied ongoing ketamine use, claiming earlier this year that he had only experimented with it years back with a medical prescription. As of now, neither Musk nor his representatives have issued a response to Wiles' latest comments.

Strong Critique of Administration Officials

In addition to Musk, Wiles critiqued other senior officials in the administration, labeling Vice President JD Vance a “conspiracy theorist” and describing budget director Russ Vought as a “right-wing absolute zealot.”

Wiles discussed Vance’s shift from critic to staunch supporter of Trump, attributing this evolution to political motivations coinciding with his Senate campaign. Vance has previously expressed that his endorsement for Trump grew from the belief that the president was “the right person to save the country.”

Epstein Files Backlash

Wiles also criticized Attorney General Pam Bondi’s management of documents related to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein. She expressed disappointment over the initial release of files dubbed “The Epstein Files: Phase 1,” which didn’t offer any new insights.

Regarding claims of an alleged client list for Epstein, she emphasized, “There is no client list, and it certainly wasn’t on her desk.” Wiles clarified that while President Trump’s name appears in the Epstein documents, it carries no implication of wrongdoing.

Response from the White House

The White House promptly sought to quell the ensuing controversy. Wiles remarked on social media that her comments had been misrepresented, labeling the piece as a “disingenuously framed hit job.” Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt publicly endorsed Wiles, asserting her status as President Trump’s most reliable and trusted adviser.

Political Implications and Economic Concerns

Wiles also touched on internal conflicts regarding Trump’s reciprocal tariff strategy, which had triggered market instability earlier this year. She admitted to significant divisions within the administration, calling the policy implementation “more painful than anticipated.”

Recent surveys show a decline in President Trump's approval ratings, with voter unease growing over economic stability and policy unpredictability.
