Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo was not part of the lineup in Saturday’s 3-1 La Liga victory over Alaves. Manager Hansi Flick explained his absence was due to a “stomach virus.”
His last match was marked by a second yellow card received during Barcelona's 3-0 loss to Chelsea in the Champions League.
Sources from The Athletic report that sporting director Deco met with Araujo’s representatives on Monday, allowing the 28-year-old to take time off from football. The club has shown strong support for his situation, stressing the importance of respecting his privacy.
When questioned, Flick stated, “It's a private matter, and I prefer not to elaborate. I would appreciate your understanding in respecting this privacy.” Barcelona did not provide further comments outside regular office hours.
Leading La Liga, Barcelona is set to host Atletico Madrid, currently in fourth place, on Tuesday. The team aims for a solid performance, despite Araujo's absence, as they strive to maintain their league position.
