Drone Strike Destroys Wildberries Warehouse in Russia

Massive Fire Destroys Wildberries Logistics Centre

A drone attack caused a massive fire that completely destroyed a logistics centre operated by Russian e-commerce company Wildberries in the Tambov region, Russian officials said on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

Tambov Governor Evgeniy Pervyshov said the overnight attack resulted in a large fire at the facility and left two people injured. He said the logistics centre was completely destroyed by the blaze.

Warehouse Fire Covered Huge Area

According to the governor, around 100,000 square metres of the facility was burning at one stage. The area is roughly equivalent to 14 football pitches, highlighting the scale of the industrial fire.

Emergency response efforts were carried out after the overnight incident, while authorities assessed the damage caused to the major logistics facility.

Ukraine-Linked Attacks Target Russian Retail Facilities

Reuters reported that Wildberries facilities have been targeted since mid-July as Ukraine has expanded its campaign against economic and industrial infrastructure inside Russia.

In recent days, the reported attacks have also expanded to include Ozon, another major Russian e-commerce company and a key competitor to Wildberries.

The two companies dominate a rapidly expanding segment of Russia's online retail economy.

Economic Impact Becomes a Major Concern

The attacks come as Russia's economy faces increasing pressure after more than four years of full-scale war in Ukraine.

Wildberries and Ozon have become major parts of Russia's e-commerce and logistics networks. Damage to large warehouses and logistics centres could therefore disrupt deliveries, inventory movement and commercial operations.

However, the longer-term economic impact of the latest warehouse destruction remains unclear.

Other Drone-Related Incidents Reported

Authorities in neighbouring Lipetsk region also reported deadly incidents linked to falling drones.

According to local officials, a man and a 14-year-old person were killed in a fire caused by a falling drone. In the Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine, authorities reported that a woman was killed in a separate drone attack.

The reports could not independently establish all details of the incidents.

Russia and Ukraine Deny Targeting Civilians

Both Russia and Ukraine have repeatedly denied intentionally targeting civilians during the conflict.

Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, and drone attacks have since become an increasingly important part of the fighting, with strikes reported both inside Ukraine and in Russian territory.

The latest incidents underline the continuing expansion of drone warfare and its impact on infrastructure and civilian areas.

Why the Wildberries Attack Matters

The destruction of the Wildberries logistics centre highlights how commercial and economic infrastructure has increasingly become affected by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The reported targeting of major e-commerce facilities also demonstrates the potential vulnerability of large logistics networks to drone attacks.

The incident is likely to attract further attention because Wildberries is one of Russia's largest online retailers and its logistics network plays an important role in the country's domestic commerce.
