Saudi-France Trade Relationship Enters a New Phase
The economic relationship between Saudi Arabia and France is moving into a broader phase as both countries expand cooperation beyond traditional oil and energy trade. The changing relationship reflects Saudi Arabia’s efforts to diversify its economy under Vision 2030 while French companies seek opportunities in one of the Middle East’s largest markets.
According to figures cited by the Franco-Arab Chamber of Commerce, France exported nearly $4.5 billion worth of goods to Saudi Arabia in 2025, compared with around $3.7 billion in imports. This represented a change from the traditional trade balance and highlighted the growing demand for French products and expertise in the Kingdom.
French Technology and Industry Find New Opportunities
French exports to Saudi Arabia now cover a wide range of sectors. Aerospace and aerospace components, industrial equipment, pharmaceuticals, technology, perfumes and cosmetics are among the areas benefiting from Saudi demand.
The expansion is closely connected with the Kingdom’s economic transformation. Saudi Arabia is investing heavily in digital technology, healthcare, tourism, infrastructure, environmental services and other sectors designed to reduce dependence on oil revenues and create new sources of economic growth.
French Companies Support Vision 2030
French companies are increasingly looking beyond simply selling products to Saudi customers. Many are developing partnerships, establishing local operations and contributing to skills development and technology transfer.

Water and environmental services are examples of areas where French expertise is being used. Companies such as Veolia have experience in water distribution and waste treatment, while other French businesses are positioned to support Saudi projects involving infrastructure, technology and sustainable development.

A major part of the changing relationship is the growing expectation that foreign companies will contribute to the Saudi economy locally. This includes employee training, partnerships with Saudi businesses and increasing the local value created by international projects.
The relationship also includes Saudi investment in France, although such investments are considered less visible than investments from some other Gulf countries. Saudi investments have been made in areas including real estate, financial markets and French companies, while a Saudi investment authority office in Paris is expected to strengthen economic connections between the two countries.
Political Ties Create More Business Opportunities
Strong political relations between Riyadh and Paris are also helping support economic cooperation. France has positioned Saudi Arabia as an important strategic partner and has backed major Saudi initiatives, including projects connected with AlUla and the Kingdom’s preparations for Expo 2030.
The close government-to-government relationship can provide additional support for companies seeking to enter the Saudi market. French businesses can benefit from political cooperation while Saudi Arabia gains access to French technology, international experience and established expertise across multiple industries.
Saudi Arabia Seeks Role as Global Economic Hub
The broader economic partnership reflects Saudi Arabia’s ambition to become more than a major energy producer. Riyadh increasingly wants to develop the Kingdom as an international economic and logistics hub connecting Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor is part of this wider vision, with Saudi Arabia seeking a larger role in the movement of goods, energy and data. As the Kingdom continues its Vision 2030 transformation, cooperation with France could expand across trade, investment, technology, infrastructure, tourism and sustainable development.
