Saudi NCA Completes Advanced Cybersecurity Training For Students

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The National Cybersecurity Authority (NCA) recently held a graduation ceremony at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) to mark the conclusion of its second cybersecurity training program for university students. The ceremony was attended by Jeddah Governor Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Jalawi, along with officials from both public and private sectors.

The event celebrated the hard work and achievements of students who completed the program. It also emphasized the Kingdom’s commitment to developing highly skilled cybersecurity professionals who can protect national digital infrastructure.

Partnership With KAUST And SITE

The eight-month training program was conducted by NCA in partnership with KAUST and the Saudi Information Technology Company (SITE). Together, these organizations provided students with high-quality education and hands-on training in cybersecurity.

Through this collaboration, students gained access to specialized courses, workshops, and practical exercises. They also participated in intensive training sessions at KAUST in Saudi Arabia and at Duke University in the United States, providing international exposure to global cybersecurity practices.

Program Reach And Participation

This second edition of the training program trained more than 4,200 undergraduate students from various universities across Saudi Arabia. The program aimed to prepare the next generation of cybersecurity professionals by equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to face real-world challenges.

The students learned through a combination of theory, practical exercises, and immersive workshops. These activities helped them gain practical experience in cybersecurity scenarios, making them ready for careers in the field.

Focus Areas Of Training

The training program focused on nine key areas of cybersecurity. These included network security, cloud computing security, incident response, ethical hacking, and other critical fields. By covering these topics, students received a comprehensive education that addressed the most important aspects of modern cybersecurity.

The program also included hands-on exercises and simulated cyber-attacks, allowing students to practice defending against real threats. This approach ensured that graduates are not only knowledgeable but also capable of applying their skills in practical situations.

CyberIC Initiative

The program is part of the second phase of the NCA’s CyberIC cybersecurity development initiative. This initiative aims to strengthen the Kingdom’s human capital and cybersecurity capabilities in line with the national vision.

CyberIC focuses on developing a highly skilled workforce capable of supporting the growing digital infrastructure of Saudi Arabia. By investing in young professionals, the NCA ensures that the country has a strong foundation to defend against evolving cyber threats.

Importance Of Cybersecurity Skills

Developing cybersecurity skills among students is critical for Saudi Arabia’s future. With increasing digitalization across government, business, and society, cyber threats have become more frequent and sophisticated.

Graduates from programs like this are expected to play key roles in protecting sensitive data, securing networks, and responding to cyber incidents. By training students early in their careers, the Kingdom ensures a steady supply of skilled cybersecurity professionals.

International Exposure

One of the unique aspects of the program was the international training provided at Duke University in the United States. This exposure allowed students to learn global best practices, experience different approaches to cybersecurity, and build connections with experts from around the world.

By combining local training at KAUST with international experience, students received a balanced education that prepares them for both local and global cybersecurity challenges.

Future Prospects

Graduates of the NCA program now have a strong foundation to pursue careers in cybersecurity within Saudi Arabia and internationally. The skills they gained in network security, ethical hacking, cloud security, and incident response will be valuable in government, private sector, and technology companies.

The program also encourages students to continue learning and advancing in the field, supporting long-term growth in the Kingdom’s cybersecurity workforce.

NCA Commitment

The National Cybersecurity Authority reaffirmed its commitment to training and developing young professionals. By investing in education, workshops, and international collaborations, the NCA aims to build a sustainable pipeline of cybersecurity talent.

The authority also emphasized the role of partnerships with universities, technology companies, and international institutions in achieving these goals. Such collaborations are vital to keeping pace with rapidly changing cyber threats and technologies.

Aligning With National Vision

The program aligns with Saudi Arabia’s national vision by developing human capital in a strategic sector. Cybersecurity is increasingly important for economic growth, national security, and digital transformation.

By preparing students for future challenges, the Kingdom ensures that it remains resilient against cyber threats. Programs like this also promote innovation, knowledge sharing, and professional growth among young Saudi citizens.
