Sharjah Declares Wadi Al Qarha Nature Reserve, Strict Rules Set

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, has issued a new decree to establish the “Wadi Al Qarha” Nature Reserve in the emirate. The move aims to protect the environment, wildlife, and natural beauty of the area.

According to the decree, the reserve’s boundaries will be defined based on an approved official map. The law introduces strict rules to prevent any activities that could harm the ecosystem or disturb wildlife.

The decree clearly bans several actions within the reserve. These include hunting, killing, or harming animals, unless allowed under official environmental regulations. It also prohibits the introduction of non-native species into the area.

Any damage to natural habitats, geological formations, or breeding grounds of plants and animals is not allowed. Pollution of air, water, or soil within the reserve is strictly banned. Military activities, such as shooting exercises, are also not permitted.

Cutting or removing trees, causing soil damage, or carrying out recreational or sports activities that may harm wildlife are prohibited. Construction, road building, vehicle use, or any agricultural, industrial, or commercial activity can only take place with special permission from the concerned authority.

The decree also states that no activity should disturb the natural balance of the reserve. Areas surrounding the reserve are also protected, and any work there requires official approval if it may affect the environment.

The law follows Federal Law No. 24 of 1999, which ensures the protection of all living organisms, including animals and birds that use the reserve for breeding or shelter.

Authorities will manage the reserve and coordinate with local municipal bodies. They will also work with Sharjah Police to enforce the rules and take action against violations.

Anyone who breaks these rules will face penalties under the law and must also cover the cost of any environmental damage caused.

This step highlights Sharjah’s continued efforts to protect its natural environment and preserve biodiversity for future generations.
