His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has given the green light to two pivotal road enhancement projects aimed at improving traffic conditions throughout the emirate.
The first initiative focuses on a 5-kilometre section of the Sharjah Ring Road in proximity to the Etihad Rail station, with a projected budget of AED 90 million. This upgrade is intended to alleviate congestion on Mleiha Road, which has been increasingly burdened by the rising population and ongoing developments nearby. Additionally, the University City Bridge will be broadened to incorporate four lanes—two in each direction—to better facilitate traffic movement toward Rakan Bridge.
The second project aims to construct a new bridge adjacent to the Martyrs' Monument in Sharjah, with a budget allocation of AED 60 million. Upon completion, this bridge will enable a direct route for vehicles moving from Mleiha Road to Mohamed bin Zayed Road, while also accommodating those traveling from Sheikh Khalifa Street to Maliha Road, thus minimizing lengthy detours. Its contemporary design is set to enhance the aesthetic appeal of an iconic city landmark.
Together, these initiatives demonstrate Sharjah's unwavering dedication to bolstering its infrastructure in response to rapid growth. The enhancements are expected to reduce traffic congestion, improve safety, and shorten travel times across major districts, thereby fostering smoother transit for residents and commuters alike.
