Sharjah Forms Sports Council to Boost Local Sports Development

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Sharjah has formed the Sharjah Sports Council (SSC) through an Emiri Decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, marking a formal push to coordinate the emirate’s sports agenda.

The decree names Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Humaid bin Saqr Al Qasimi as SSC Chairman and appoints eight members to the council: Dr Abdullah Abdulrahman Yousef bin Sultan, Adel Saleh Yousef Al Hammadi, Abdullah Sultan Al Dah Al Matroushi, Abdullah Mohammed Al Malih Al Fazari, Omar Hassan Ali bin Hanifa, Dr Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Yasi, Dr Saif Ahmed Saif Khalaf Al Zaabi, and Hanan Mohammed Al Mahmoud.

SSC is tasked with promoting athlete development, upgrading sporting facilities and expanding participation across the emirate. The council will oversee programmes aimed at youth training, community engagement and the hosting of local, regional and international competitions in Sharjah.

The establishment of SSC supports Sharjah’s strategic aim to enhance its standing as a regional centre for sport and wellness. Bringing together specialists from diverse fields, the council will focus on policies that emphasise innovation, inclusion and sustainability across the sports sector.
