Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister of the UAE, officially inaugurated the 27th General Conference of the International Council of Museums (ICOM Dubai 2025) on Wednesday.

Themed “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities,” this unprecedented gathering has attracted over 4,500 professionals in the museum sector, cultural leaders, and policymakers from across the globe, establishing Dubai as a pivotal center for culture, creativity, and knowledge sharing. This marks the inaugural hosting of the conference in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia region.

Sheikh Hamdan, together with Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture, explored the Museum Fair showcasing innovations from more than 100 international institutions. The fair illustrates how museums are harnessing technology and fresh strategies to connect with communities in an ever-evolving landscape.

During her keynote speech, Sheikha Latifa underscored the cultural heritage of the UAE and referred to ICOM Dubai 2025 as “a bridge uniting creativity, foresight, and cultures.” She emphasized the transformative power of culture in shaping humanity's future and highlighted the UAE’s historical significance as a meeting point for creativity and collaboration.

The conference, which continues until November 17, includes keynote speeches, panel discussions, and forums aimed at examining how museums can adapt and enhance their societal roles. Focus areas include technological advancements, sustainable initiatives, and methods for promoting inclusivity in cultural environments.

ICOM Dubai 2025 symbolizes the UAE's dedication to cultural leadership and the pivotal role of museums as educational, creative spaces fostering global discourse. The event paves the way for cross-cultural synergy and a unified vision for the future of museums on a global scale.
