UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has officially inaugurated the Games of the Future Abu Dhabi 2025, which is being held from December 18 to 23 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The opening ceremony was also attended by the President of Azerbaijan, His Excellency Ilham Aliyev, along with several senior leaders and officials. Sheikh Mohamed warmly welcomed all participants and wished them success as they take part in this international sporting event.
Sheikh Mohamed said that hosting the Games of the Future reflects the UAE’s growing position as a global hub for innovation and future-focused sports. He explained that the event combines traditional athletic competition with advanced technology, creating a new kind of sporting experience designed for the next generation. He also highlighted that the UAE offers a welcoming platform where young people from around the world can meet, exchange ideas, and compete in a friendly and respectful environment.
The opening ceremony was attended by a number of UAE leaders, including Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Sheikh Zayed bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as well as ministers, senior officials, and heads of international delegations. Guests also included Her Excellency Tatyana Golikova, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, along with many other dignitaries.
More than 850 athletes from over 60 countries are competing in this year’s Games of the Future. The event blends live physical sports with digital gaming, creating hybrid competitions that test both physical strength and digital skills. This edition features one of the most diverse and competitive groups of athletes so far, showcasing how modern sports can merge technology with traditional gameplay.
The opening ceremony included the UAE national anthem, impressive visual presentations, and storytelling segments that celebrated the athletes and their journeys. Advanced technologies were used throughout the event to reflect the theme of future sports and innovation.
During his speech, His Excellency Faisal Abdulaziz Al Bannai highlighted the UAE’s strong focus on innovation, youth empowerment, and developing future-ready skills. He said the Games of the Future represent more than just competition, as they mirror how today’s youth live and compete across both physical and digital worlds. By hosting this event, Abu Dhabi is strengthening its role as a global centre for hybrid sports and meaningful innovation.
