His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who also serves as President of the University of Kalba, chaired the university’s Board of Trustees meeting on Monday morning at the university’s main campus. The meeting focused on academic progress, future programs, and the launch of new digital initiatives.
The Ruler of Sharjah praised the board’s dedication and its achievements in enhancing the university’s reputation among higher education institutions in the region. He said these accomplishments are the result of a clear vision and strong strategy aimed at developing national talent, creating a dynamic academic environment, and promoting research that meets the needs of the local community.
Sheikh Dr. Sultan emphasized the need to continue attracting outstanding academic and administrative professionals, explaining that their experience directly contributes to improving students’ performance and strengthening the quality of the university’s output. He encouraged all departments to work with determination to ensure consistent progress in education and research.
The Ruler of Sharjah also highlighted the importance of integration between colleges and disciplines, explaining that collaboration enriches learning and research. He said this kind of cooperation helps students gain a broad set of skills and knowledge, which is essential for building a modern and well-rounded education system. He added that this approach forms one of the key pillars of an advanced university environment that inspires creativity, innovation, and community service.
Sheikh Dr. Sultan expressed his good wishes to all students, encouraging them to continue working hard in their studies. He reaffirmed that the university’s mission is not only to educate but also to prepare a generation capable of innovation and leadership, aligned with the UAE’s national goals in education and sustainable development.
The Board reviewed several agenda items, including the university’s performance and academic development plans. After detailed discussions, the Board approved the introduction of new academic programs to begin in the 2026–2027 academic year, once all technical and accreditation procedures are completed.
The new degrees include the Bachelor of Science in Sports Rehabilitation, Sports Nutrition and Health Wellness, E-Sports and Interactive Technologies, and Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. Additionally, the Bachelor of Science in Sports Science will feature two new specializations — Physical Education and Sports Coaching and Management.
Dr. Najwa Al Hosani, Director of the University of Kalba, presented a detailed report highlighting achievements from the past academic year. The report covered academic growth, research initiatives, community outreach, and digital transformation. She emphasized the university’s commitment to executing its strategic plan focused on achieving excellence in teaching and research, community service, and modern education infrastructure aligned with international standards.
The Board reviewed the progress reports submitted by its specialized committees — including the Academic Committee, Financial Committee, Compliance and Internal Audit Committee, and Financial Resource Development Committee. Several recommendations and developmental initiatives were approved to strengthen the university’s performance and ensure sustainable growth in the coming years.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Sheikh Dr. Sultan officially launched the new website of the University Library by pressing a digital tablet button. The launch marks another step in the university’s ongoing efforts to enhance digital transformation and accessibility to academic resources. The new online platform offers access to over 400,000 electronic journals, 300,000 digital books, and major international databases such as EBSCO, ProQuest, and Emerald.
The Ruler of Sharjah expressed his satisfaction with the new system, noting that it will support research and innovation while fostering a digital learning culture that benefits both students and faculty.
During the meeting, the Ruler also viewed a collection of student projects related to innovation, entrepreneurship, and sports. These projects demonstrated the creativity and practical knowledge of Kalba University’s youth. Sheikh Dr. Sultan listened to student presentations and commended their scientific and intellectual achievements, noting that their success reflects the effectiveness of the university’s teaching and mentorship.
The Ruler of Sharjah also reviewed the awards, medals, and recognitions earned by students in national and international competitions. He congratulated them for representing both the university and the Emirate of Sharjah with distinction. Sheikh Dr. Sultan assured the students of his continued support, emphasizing the importance of research, innovation, and community engagement as essential components of higher education.
In return, the students expressed heartfelt appreciation to Sheikh Dr. Sultan for his constant encouragement and investment in their education. They thanked him for providing modern facilities, advanced technologies, and a supportive learning environment that allowed them to turn ideas into real achievements.
Their message reflected deep gratitude for the Ruler’s vision, which has helped make the University of Kalba a growing center of excellence in education, research, and community service — proudly representing Sharjah on both local and international stages.
